The primary role of L-Carnitine is to help transport fatty acids that are turned into energy-producing units in cells... It's a super nutrient for physically-active people.
Each L-Carnitine capsule contains 250 mg of L-Carnitine, a powerful supplement for your daily nutritional regimen.
Vitamin Power's L-Carnitine is formulated without added caffeine, corn, gluten, sodium, starch, sugar, wheat or yeast; No artificial colorings, flavorings or preservatives added.

As I lecture across the country I get more and more feedback about how carnitine is changing lives. Improved weight loss, better mental function, eliminated carvings, increased energy, relieved PMS, even better sleep quality are just some of the things I am hearing from folks who take carnitine in amounts of 1-3 grams per day.
Why? Carnitine is central to the body's ability to turn food into energy, especially fat. When you increase energy and descrease fat levels in the body at the same time, which carnitine does, a lot of things go right. The liver, one of the most central organs in the body, works better. Circulation improves, because there is less fat in the arteries. Body defenses are higher. The list of benefits goes on and on. (See top ten list.)
What we are seeing in the acceptance of nutrients like carnitine by more and more Americans is the realization that energizing nutrients like carnitine are some of the most important we can take. Energy is the most important thing we need to have to keep the body from aging. Energy at the cellular level enhances the immune function, increases the body's ability to remove toxic and potentially disesase causing compounds and helps cells live longer.
Carnitine is found predominately in meat and animal products. Red meat is the best source. Chicken and turkey also contain carnitine, though not as much as is found in red meat. Carnitine is also found to a lesser extent in milk and daily products.
We consume about 50 mg of carnitine per day in our diet. Those who eat many servings of red meat per day get more. Strict vegetarians get little or no carnitine. Fruits, vegetables and grains contain virtually no carnitine.
We can make small amounts of carnitine in our body. To do so we need the amino acids lysine and methionine, vitamins such as niacin, B6, vitamin C, and iron. Bu the amounts we make in our body and the amounts we get through food are not enough to give the optimal supply of this remarkable nutrient that we need to get all its benefits.
Carnitine in a dose of 1-3 grams gives our cells the optimal energy needed and energy is the greatest anti-aging force there is. The more energy our cells have, the slower they age, and body levels of carnitine -- our premier energizing nutrient -- decline as we get older. Carnitine prevents cells from self-destructing when faced with environmental toxins like free radicals. As we age we are less able to protect our body from free radicals. Carnitine, and especially the brain enhancing form of carnitine known as acetyl-L-carnitine, powerfully protect us from such free radicals. Carnitine also keeps the immune system strong, especially as we age.
Much research points to the benefits of carnitine in endurance sports. Carnitine enhances aerobic performance, allowing athletes to exercise longer without fatigue. Trained runners given 2 grams of carnitine per day increased thier peak running speed by a remarkable 5.7 percent.
One of the most frequent comments I hear from my clients is that they have much better athlete endurance when they take carnitine regularly. This is particularly true for those who only exercise once or twice a week. Research corroborates this, showing that carnitine can stimulate the effient use of fat as fuel in non-trained athletes to give them that "trained-like" state of greater endurance. The dose that appears to be most helpful for enhancing aerobic performance is in the range of 1-4 grams per day.
Older adults benefit greatly from carnitine during exercise. Carnitine levels decline with age and because of this, fatty acids can accumulate that can make the energy pathways of the cell sluggish. For these and many other reasons, carnitine is a must supplement for those over 40 who want to maximize their energy and exercise endurance.
Tuning up the metabolism with the right nutrients is essential for weight loss. There is significant scientific evidence that increased levels of carnitine in tissues leads to increased fat burning. Carnitine is the forklift that takes fat to the fat incinerators in our cells calls mitochondria. Unless fat makes it into the mitochondria, we can't burn it off no matter what we do or how well we diet. Once fat is inside the mitochondria, it is magically transformed into energy. It's like turning bricks into gold. This is why carnitine encourages both weight loss and increased energy levels.
A recent study showed the powerful advantage of combining carnitine with a weight loss program. For those eating a healthy diet and getting moderate exercise for 12 weeks, the average weight loss was one pound. For those who added one gram of carnitine per day to the same regimen, weight loss averaged 11 pounds. Merely adding 1,000 mg of carnitine from carnitine tartrate increased weight loss elevenfold.
Three important points to remember when taking carnitine: first, be sure to take enough. The minimum dose for you to feel a difference is 500 mg and some will not see increased energy, lowered triglycerides or increased energy until they take 2-3 grams (2,000 - 3,000 mg) per day. Secondly, take carnitine tartrate for the best results. In the clinic we have found it to deliver the most reliable results. Thirdly, take carnitine early in the day (with or before breakfast, preferably), because it is an energizing nutrient. Taking it later than 3:00 p.m. may make one have too much energy at bedtime.
If you have not experienced the increase in natural energy and overall enhanced well being of carnitine, I hope you will soon will. Increasing your cellular energy with carnitine and its companion nutrients CoQ10, lipoic acid, flaxseed oil, magnesium and the B vitamins will give your cells all the fuel they need. The result will be maximal energy, reduced risk to many diseases and optimal health.
